SUMMARY:Creative Writing Workshop: Seed Planting and Scriptwriting
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a scriptwriting workshop inspired by nature in the Community Patch community garden on Sunday 19th April 1-3pm.  \nAre you a gardener interested in exploring creative writing? Are you a writer looking to try out new ways of working? Are you a theatre maker who wants to develop your writing skills? \nIn this interactive outdoor workshop\, we will plant seeds\, generate script material inspired by the action of sowing\, create plant inspired characters and write monologues before ending with an opportunity to share the newly sprouted scripts. \nThis creative afternoon will give you a chance to explore new ways of writing alongside planting spring seeds to take home with you. \nBook your place here\nThis creative writing workshop is free for everyone to attend\, thanks to support from The Community Patch and Arts Council England. However\, if you would like to support The Community Patch’s work\, there will be an opportunity to make a donation to the organisation after the workshop. \nIf you have any access requirements please let us know. The workshop is suitable for 14+ however\, under 18s will need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian. \nThis workshop is part of an Arts Council England funded research and development period for Wigan-born writer and theatre maker\, Laura Atherton. She will be working at The Old Courts the week before to develop her play ‘Spring’\, which is set in a garden and uses nature as an inspiration and metaphor throughout the script. For more information about her work visit www.lauraatherton.co.uk and to attend the work in progress sharing of ‘Spring’ on Friday 17th April at 2pm in The Old Courts\, Wigan please book your free ticket here. \n‘Spring’ is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

SUMMARY:Balsam Bash & Walk in Elnup Woods
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guided walk in Elnup woods and bash Himalayan Balsam as we find it. \nMeet up at the woods entrance on Parkbrook Lane\, WN6 8AF on 7th June at 11am \nThis is a fun and satisfying activity for everyone\, as we all enjoy the beauty of these ancient woodlands along Mill Brook. \nThough this plant can look lovely\, it is extremely prolific and invasive\, and it’s a danger to our native woodlands\, rivers and canals. So let’s all pitch in! \nWe will help everyone to identify the correct plants\, and will show the correct method for bashing \nThe walk is suitable for families and adults; it’s around 1.6 miles long loop and has steps and uneven paths. We’ll be walking\, but stopping and starting a bit\, so we expect it to take around 1.5 -2 h \nYou don’t need to book\, but if you want to text 07768202818 to let us know if you’re coming\, and we’ll know to wait. \nVolunteer balsam bashing events can make a real difference in protecting our waterways. You can read more about the dangers to native wildlife and our rivers here canalrivertrust.org.uk/things-to-do/canal-and-river-wildlife/canal-and-river-invasive-species/himalayan-balsam \n  \nEvent organised by the Community Patch CIC and funded by National Lottery Environment fund
