Connecting People and Nature

what does the community patch CIC do?

By combining nature, art, and community, The Community Patch aims to create spaces where people and polinators can thrive.

community services

The Community Patch is a Wigan-based, non-profit Community Interest Company (CIC). We've been a community group for years and have now expanded our work and services. It's a very exciting time.

We believe that creativity, nature, and community are powerful tools for improving wellbeing, biodiversity and bringing people together. We do this through Community Gardening, Art Therapy, Garden Design and Creative Workshops. Everything we do is rooted in connection to ourselves, each other, and the natural world.

If you'd like to work with us, or learn more please get in touch.

Creative Workshops

Our workshops are designed to be hands-on, joyful, and rooted in nature. We don’t just open packets of supplies – we forage to use natural, seasonal, and found materials wherever we can, often combining them with art for a beautiful result. And we often grow our own where possible too.

From pressed flower art to herbal remedies, from propagation to autumn nature crafts, our sessions give people the chance to slow down, learn something new, and connect with friends and the world around them. They range from the fun and crafty to deeper learning about growing, tailoring sessions to both children and grownups.

We host workshops both indoors and outdoors, and are used to just about any weather. We love longer sessions where people really get stuck into a project, or we can provide fun drop in 'make and take' sessions for events and fairs.

Art Nature Therapy

Art Therapy

Our art therapy sessions use creativity and nature to support healing, self-expression, and emotional wellbeing. Through nature-based workshops, participants engage in activities such as mindfulness, forest bathing, and hands-on creative projects. These sessions provide a safe and nurturing space to connect with yourself, others, and the natural world, helping to release stress, build resilience, and explore emotions in a supportive environment.

We also offer tailored programmes for schools and community groups, with the option to develop nature connection skills through structured learning opportunities.

SWAP Community Garden Design

Community Gardening & Greenspace Design

We believe green spaces are vital for wellbeing, wildlife, and community pride. Our projects bring people together to transform shared spaces into places that are welcoming, sustainable, and full of life.

We work alongside residents, schools, and local organisations to co-design gardens, orchards, wildflower meadows, and spaces that reflect community needs.

Recent projects include: Improving a local park, creating pollinator-friendly flower beds, revamping a community garden, helping to create a new greenspace at a GP surgery. We also run a community garden in Wigan and host regular sessions there.

Whether it’s a park, playground, or patch of land at the edge of a school field, we help communities reimagine and reshape their green spaces.
