Give it a Grow Wigan is a non profit community group set up in 2021 to increase biodiversity in urban areas of wigan borough.

We’ve been working on a number of projects, but our main projects has been distributing free wildflower seeds to encourage residents to start gardening for wildlife.

I believe passionately in giving out these seeds, the sheer number of requests (almost 800) shows just how needed this is in Wigan Borough.

Often genuine UK native wildflower seeds are quite expensive and difficult to buy in small batches, so this means they are quite inaccessible to the average gardener.

And cheaper ones from supermarkets are not high quality, the contents often aren’t even wildflowers, and the plants are not native.

If you want genuine ones, you really need to read and know the label, and often have to buy far too many for your space, and so it can be offputting and is not considered an option.

But these kinds of flowers are fundamental in improving biodiversity and bringing more bees and pollinators to our urban spaces in Wigan.

By buying high-quality native wildflower seeds in bulk and distributing them out in smaller batches, we are making it easy for residents to bring more nature to their gardens.  And we want to continue doing it!

But it costs money.

If you believe in the work we are doing, and you want to help, please consider donating to our campaign. It would be massively appreciated and it would make a big difference to what we can achieve.

All money goes directly towards; seeds, packaging, plants, fuel, tools etc.

Our time is still given 100% free – we’re not paying ourselves or volunteers.

We are all out litter picking, weeding, growing seedlings, planting, offering advice, meeting landowners, reviewing planting locations etc as much as we can every week on a volunteer basis.

Thank you so much for your support

By the way, we are currently delivering seeds as fast as we can, due to such high demand it may take up to a week to reach you! We are also providing full planting guidance on this blog, to make sure you make the best of it.

We are so excited to see all your new wild spaces this summer!

And here is the donation link again!
